Laser hardening in practice
Using the laser-hardening process, you will be able to solve various hardening tasks with low distortion. This process is especially suited to harden functionally dedicated component segments subject to wear and tear. We develop and manufacture laser-hardening lines for you as stand-alone system, automated solution or for integration in your production process. We will also undertake laser-hardening of your components in series.
Benefits of the process
- Very low heat input
- Extremely low distortion
- Hardening depth adjustable
- Geometry-independent, hardening progression adjustable via software
- Bright-hardenable with inert gas
- No rework required
- No quenching medium and no vacuum required
- Automatable and integrable into the running production process
Typical applications
- Advisable for local hardening operations even on smallest surfaces
- Especially suited for component segments subject to wear and tear to improve friction, sliding, and abrasion resistance
- Also suitable for hardly accessible component geometries such as inner contours
Which materials can be hardened?
- Quenched and tempered steel
- Tool steel
- Cast iron
- Thermo-chemically treated steels
- Corrosion- and acid-resistant steels
- Nitriding steels
- High-speed steel
Laser-beam sources used / Laser power
- Diode lasers
- Solid-state lasers
- Disk lasers
- Fibre lasers
- CO2-lasers (rather seldom)
- Laser power: in most cases as from 3 kW, depending on geometry, material, and feed
We gladly support you in the technology development of your hardening jobs.
